Set to the classic bop, “Old MacDonald Had a Farm”, Russia’s Miroshka TV teaches kids about six essential (?) colours: black, brown, pink, white, red and blue, by way of little egg men splitting their heads open to be filled with goo. Oh, look: It’s another creepy video for children. “Learning Colors – Colorful Eggs on a Farm” by Miroshka TV Views: 4.5 billion It’s a song about hygiene, which, great message, but there’s still some kind of uncanny valley creepiness here that we just can’t ignore. In more evidence that kids probably have too much access to the internet at a young age, “Bath Song” flips a couple of tracks - namely, “The Itsy-Bitsy Spider” and, of course, “Baby Shark Dance” ( Washmy arms doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo) - to the tune of nearly five billion views. “Bath Song” by CoComelon Nursery Rhymes & Kids Songs Views: 4.9 billion Pairing Charlie Puth’s emotional piano and vocals with Wiz’s rapping and reflection on moments throughout the series in each verse, it’s a hit formula with a heartwarming message. Charlie Puth) Views: 5.3 billionįans of the Fast and the Furious franchise are all too familiar with “See You Again,” the touching track from Furious 7 and tribute to the film’s late star, Paul Walker. Fun fact: “Thinking Out Loud” and “Perfect” also rank among YouTube’s top 30 most-viewed, at #18 and #28, respectively. From the singer’s 2017 album, Divide, this track’s a hit wherever it’s played, and Sheeran’s grasp on social media makes it no surprise that he’d do numbers on YouTube as well. “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran Views: 5.6 billion It’s been described as “disturbing” and “nonsensical”, and that’s all we have to say about that. An Indian YouTube channel called “Billion Surprise Toys” went for full virality, incorporating “Gangnam Style” dance moves and references to the aforementioned “Baby Shark”. “Johny Johny Yes Papa”, a song that turns the familiar “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” melody into a tale of sugar consumption and familial deception was destined for the meme treatment, which it got in spades in 2018 across Twitter and throughout YouTube. “Johny Johny Yes Papa” by LooLoo Kids Views: 6.1 billion It’s safe to say YouTube has played a huge part in that success. The second problem is more serious as I can't find a work around. I can't see any way to explicitly switch off NAT, and I don't know how the web configuration will interact with my use of iptables in Firewall Builder. However I think this indicates that something odd is happening with NAT. I've tried the telnet trick to see if the WAN address answers on port 25 - it doesn't. I can work around this by adding the address to the SPF string, but the point is that this should not have happened: the email should have been seen to originate from the server at A.B.201.249 (I do not relay outgoing mail through my ISP's smarthost). Firstly, I happen to use SPF, and when I was sending an email to Yahoo (which checks SPF to make sure that the server sending a mail is permitted to do so for that domain), I got an error message refusing delivery because the email was send from the WAN address of the router, i.e. Ok, now the odd bit - actually two things. I've used "telnet A.B.201.249 25" to check that the SMTP server is visible from an external network. I've checked the iptables rules that this generates and they seem plausible. The SPI fw is enabled, and I have built a firewall rule set using Firewall Builder. It is acting as a DHCP server for the LAN, but I have fixed the address for the server as A.B.201.249. I have assigned a LAN address of A.B.201.241 to the router, and enabled SSH. I also pass protocol 41 traffic through to this server from one external IP address. On the LAN, I have a server at A.B.201.249, running SMTP, IMAP, DNS, HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, all of which I want to expose to the Internet. my end of the PPPoE tunnel, but under normal circumstances I would have no reason to use this address. There is also a single public address A.B.87.164, which is the WAN address for the router, i.e. I'm running DD-WRT v24SP2 VPN (not using the VPN part at the moment). I've replaced this with a Linksys WRT54GL (used with the same Vigor modem). I used to use a Cisco 800 series router to terminate a PPPoE connection, with a Draytek Vigor 100 ADSL modem. The SMTP server (Exim4) has been in use for 18 months in this configuration, and I haven't made any recent changes in its configuration. I have an odd problem using a server with SMTP behind a DD-WRT firewall, and I hope that someone can help. It's my first time using iptables and all the information I see online seems to indicate i'm doing it correctly.Posted: Mon 22:54 Post subject: Odd problem with SMTP Unfortunatly, everytime I reach "iptables -A INPUT -j DROP" i lose my telnet connection to the router like all teh rules i've set before where being ignored. This map would seem to be the first to make use in a limited way of the image of a bull bearing a maiden on his back. These were emblematic of Christ’s blood, as drunk as part of the Christian Eucharist.Ĥ Within the atlas itself, the map of the continent of Europe has a small mythological image which is part of the title in the upper left part of the map. The cross signifies her Christian Catholic religion and, to add further emphasis, she is seated under a pergola decked with vine shoots and clusters of grapes. She sits on a throne as if superior to all other peoples of the world and, as well as being crowned, holds a sceptre in her right hand and in her left grasps a cross secured to a large orb of the earth. At the top of the architectural ensemble is the figure of Europe (Figure 1a). Four figures show Africa, Asia, America and the supposed and only partly known land Magellanica. Shown as Figure 1, it has within an architectural structure, images of five women representing the known continents of the time 1. (1998), "The Titlepages to (.)ģ However, the image of Europe that appears in the well-known titlepage to Abraham Ortelius’ Theatrum Orbis Terrarum of 1570, the first standardised world atlas of its time, is not taken from Ovid. 1 For an elaboration of the meaning of Ortelius’ titlepage, see SHIRLEY R. Some say to Crete as its first queen others suggest that she was carried across the seas to the more distant land that would later bear her name. Sources differ as to where Jupiter took his bride. Details vary in other accounts-in some she is astride his back in others she sits gracefully side-saddle. As he swam out to sea she naively waves a farewell to her companions. Transforming himself into a handsome white bull he came close to the shore, enticed her onto his back and seductively allayed her fears so that she wound a chain of flowers around his horns. From afar off in the heavens the god Jupiter (or Jove or Zeus) espied Europa and became enamoured of her. In brief, the maiden Europa, a Phoenician by lineage, was gathering flowers on the sea-shore with her female attendants. This tale is found at the end of book II, lines 836 – 875, although Ovid is known to have tapped into much earlier Graeco-Roman mythology going back several centuries BC. The image of Europe (or Europa) is only one of very many such visual representations.Ģ One of the earliest classical tales that influenced Renaissance scholars was the fable of the abduction of Europe derived from Ovid’s famed Metamorphoses, written in about AD 7 when Ovid was in his late forties and at the height of his poetic vigour. Typically, from the 1570s and over the next 300 years these printed engravings employ the language of allegory, fable, imagery and classical references to achieve this end. Similar visual messages may be imparted through the decorative cartouches of maps. Their aim is to attract the potential reader, first opening the book, by a visual expression of the contents of the work that is to follow. Top of pageġ Since the 16 th century many atlases of maps and, more widely, works of geography, cosmography, exploration and travel have been preceded by highly decorative titlepages and/or frontispieces presenting their contents in symbolic form. Peppering the big guys with explosives before effortlessly releasing a hail of bullets to mop up the smaller enemies never really gets old, and when you combine that with Wang’s special skills, you may well be diving into the closest thing to Bonestorm since Thrillho first picked up the controller. There’s an impressive amount of different creatures to shoot apart, from hellish bunnies to bell-tolling “belly monsters” and a whole lot more in-between. Gunplay is best saved for the game’s demons, who are as ugly as they are diverse. Wang can perform special maneuvers, such as a pirouette slash of sorts, or hanging back before unleashing a ranged attack. It’s not just a case of spamming the attack button, either. For instance, human opponents are infinitely more satisfying to dispatch of with a sword there’s something coarsely satisfying about dashing around opponents, avoiding fire, and taking their limbs off with a couple of quick sword strokes. Switching between melee and firearms on the fly, the game recommends experimentation of gameplay styles, aided by the broad range of different enemies and scenarios. A lot of FPS games feel stodgy on console compared to the experience of a mouse and keyboard, but just like last year’s DOOM, Shadow Warrior 2 excels in the fluidity of mass digital murder with controller in hand. Lo Wang glides across the floor like a warm knife through butter it’s clear that the developers have tried to replicate the smoothness of movement found in the PC version. While this may sound like it could make or break the game for many, doing the same kind of task over and over again is saved by just how superb Shadow Warrior 2’s combat feels. There are a couple of deviations, but nothing that’s going to make CD Projekt Red concerned. Take Wang here, collect that, listen to a joke about penises, and return. The missions, whether they’re relevant to the main story or are simple side-quests, don’t offer much variety on paper. There is also, of course, the Wang Cave, because penis jokes. A quasi-open world is traversable from the game’s hub, a place where you receive missions and bounties, as well as offering somewhere to trade and craft. The gardens, towns, and hellish scapes Wang slashes his way through have much better defined character, which is lucky because you will be revisiting them a fair few times each. Visually, it’s much more vibrant and alive, even if some of the NPC models struggle to emote properly. With news that Shadow Warrior 2 would be something completely different and take inspiration from the likes of Borderlands, I guess you could say that I was open to the prospect of more Wang.įrom the off, it’s clear that Shadow Warrior 2 – released on PC last year– is a big upgrade on the game that came before it. Perhaps it was the lack of polish, or the gatling gun delivery of penis jokes within such a short space of time that turned me away, but Shadow Warrior failed to pull me in at all. While by no means a slog to play, Flying Wild Hog’s first go-around with the cult FPS series lacked something that I could never place my finger on. If the 2013 reimagining of the hard times of the Wang didn’t do enough to turn older fans away, this one may just push them over the edge – it has almost nothing to do with either game. As one of the most intentionally offensive protagonists in gaming history, he’s a controversial hero and someone that might rub some gamers up the wrong way, but for my money, he’s the best creepy uncle you get to play as.Īnd he’s back for Shadow Warrior 2: the sequel to the reboot of the 3D Realms classic from 1997. It never stops surprising me that Lo Wang doesn’t have his own innuendo-heavy theme song, or leads a music group called Kool & the Wang. These nodes do not propose blocks, but they still serve a critical role in securing the network by holding all block proposers accountable by listening for new blocks and verifying their validity on arrival according to the network consensus rules. the majority) are not required to commit any economic resources beyond a consumer-grade computer with 1-2 TB of available storage and an internet connection. This category requires committing economic resources (such as GPU hash power in proof-of-work or staked ETH in proof-of-stake) in exchange for the ability to occasionally propose the next block and earn protocol rewards. This category includes mining nodes under proof-of-work (PoW) and validator nodes under proof-of-stake (PoS). Nodes that propose blocks are only a small number of the total nodes on Ethereum. There are two types of Ethereum nodes: nodes that can propose blocks and nodes that don't. As Mainnet merged with the Beacon Chain, it also merged the entire transactional history of Ethereum. Instead, the proof-of-stake validators have adopted this role and are now responsible for processing the validity of all transactions and proposing blocks. Mining is no longer the means of producing valid blocks. The Merge represented the official switch to using the Beacon Chain as the engine of block production. After The Merge, the Beacon Chain became the consensus engine for all network data, including execution layer transactions and account balances. After extensive testing, it became time for the Beacon Chain to reach consensus on real world data. Instead, it was reaching consensus on its own state by agreeing on active validators and their account balances. The Beacon Chain was not originally processing Mainnet transactions. On December 1, 2020, the Beacon Chain was created as a separate blockchain to Mainnet, running in parallel. Throughout Ethereum's history, developers prepared for an eventual transition away from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake. This allowed the Ethereum blockchain we're all used to to come into existence in July 2015 with all its familiar features-transactions, smart contracts, accounts, etc. Proof-of-work secured Ethereum Mainnet from genesis until The Merge. This merged the new, more efficient engine into the existing ship enabling it to put in some serious light years and take on the universe. After significant testing, it became time to hot-swap the new engine for the old one mid-flight. With the Beacon Chain, the community built a new engine and a hardened hull. Imagine Ethereum is a spaceship that launched before it was quite ready for an interstellar voyage. The Merge was when these two systems finally came together, and proof-of-work was permanently replaced by proof-of-stake. Ethereum Mainnet - with all its accounts, balances, smart contracts, and blockchain state - continued to be secured by proof-of-work, even while the Beacon Chain ran in parallel using proof-of-stake. Initially, the Beacon Chain shipped separately from Mainnet.
